Day 1 : Tuesday 21 May 2024


6.45 am Tuesday : the first skip arrives.		Tommy arrives as the skip (for wood only) is unloaded.


Building materials are delivered by Brindl the builders.		Lorry mounted crane with extremely long reach brings cement.


First skip of scrap wood as well as a tree from the garden.		The garage (with new hole in wall) after the first day.


Hole knocked in garage wall on the first day.	Bathroom sink has been removed.	Bathroom radiator has been removed.


Old bath tub still in situ.	Breaking up of floor tiles in old heating room.	One of the two windows removed.


Second window removed.	More rubble on the floor at end of Day 1.	Window in heating room removed.

Day 2: Wednesday 22 May 2024


Work starts on clearing out the old kitchen.	Dodgy looking damp patch under the fridge.	Demolition work up on the chimney.


First rubble skip being delivered, before collecting full wood skip.		First rubble skip being positioned next to garage.


Carefully laying mat on grass in case anything falls from roof.		GISMO the local window company comes to measure up.


Taking down the old chimney from the top to the bottom.		Mary-Ann and Anneliese while the old kitchen is being cleared out.


An old stove (one of many) is being transported away.		Mary-Ann and Anneliese inspect the new 'temporary' kitchen.


The new 'temporary' kitchen gets a hoovering.		Units from the old kitchen were moved into the 'temporary' kitchen.


'Temporary' kitchen still includes an old mill.		Clearing out all the stuff in the old kitchen.

Day 3: Thursday 23 May 2024


The ceiling in the old kitchen will need replastering.		Herr Brindl visits to assess and discuss progress.


Discussions by the garage.	Old bathroom tub is cleared out.	Wheel-barrow ramp to load the rubble skip.


BrindlBau are the local building contractors.		Bags of cement neatly piled up ready for the construction work.


That burned roof still looks dodgy. Assessment needed.		Anneliese and Mary-Ann collecting dandelions for the rabbits.


The first fully loaded rubble skip is covered up before leaving.		The full first rubble skip is taken away.


The lower section of the chimney has been completely removed.		The two windows and the door from the old heating room are gone.

Day 4: Friday 24 May 2024


Herr Brandstetter (kitchen) checks details.	Herrn Brandstetter and Essl (heating).	Internal wall starts to be demolished.


Several supports used to hold up ceiling.	The wall next to the garage partially removed.	Ceiling being supported by joists.

Day 5: Monday 27 May 2024


"Starkstrom" used for some power tools.	Herr Brindl comes to discuss floor etc.	BrindlBau.


Mary-Ann inspects the empty bathroom.	Part of the wall already removed.	Mary-Ann and Herr Brindl discuss floor.


Closer look at part removed wall.	Herr Brindl joined by assistant.	Demolition work continues.

Day 6: Tuesday 28 May 2024


Mary-Ann again arrives early.	Measuring up the levels....	.... with the green light.


Hole dug in the floor in the bathroom.	Another look at the bathroom hole.	Taking a torch to see better.


New hole in the former office area.	Herr Brindl draws up details for 31cm flooring.	The edges of the new alcove are concreted.


Third inspection hole drilled in floor.	Internal wall begins to be removed.	Third rubble skip is delivered.

Day 7: Wednesday 29 May 2024


Chimney inspector arrives at 7am.	From Thaler Kamin	Another view of the joists.


Joist used at window.	Noise cancelling headhones ... ideal!	Heavy duty "stark-strom" (440v) drill.


Upper floor. More walling removed.	Hole in floor down to where chimney was.	Two holes through the ceiling.


The next skip is gradually filled up.	Mary-Ann climbs ladder to access the up-stairs area.	Measuring thickness( 31cm) of the (new) shack wall.


Gismo turns up to check window dimenions will still be OK.		More joists.


Tommy works on his tree-house.	The small vent on the roof is not new, apparently.	Repeat photo.

Day 8: Monday 3 June 2024


Wet start to Monday morning	Only two workers turn up .....	..... not enough to do for more.


The concrete floor in the old kitchen .....	..... is being dug up with a pneumatic drill.	Also more digging in the new office area.


Piles of concrete rubble ....	....more concrete rubble....	Bathroom floor almost all dug up.

Day 9: Tuesday 4 June 2024


Generator arrives a day too early.	Kaminbauer on the blower.....	...... Kaminbauer still on the blower.


Second Brindl van ... bringing the stand-in for Herr Brindl.		Large gaps appearing above the windows.


Herr Essl looking for heating pipes.	More floor starts to be taken up.	Herr Essl looks at the underfloor heating.


The shack window is being widened.	New brickwork at the widened shack window.	An old heating stove ready to be removed.

Day 10: Wednesday 5 June 2024

Day 11: Thursday 6 June 2024


New skip delivered -- for concrete.		Third rubble skip is collected.

It's MAGNUM time all round.	Tommy by the extended shack window.	No generator on truck (only for two days).

Day 13: Monday 10 June 2024


The old clapped out VW van (O.xxxxxx) is used for the third day.		Progress on the back of the house.


A pause outside on the drive between the fifth and sixth skips.		All the joists have now gone.

Replacement compressor delivered by truck with the onboard crane.		Sixth skip is collected.


Herr Essl looks at pipework in old kitchen.	Essl and plumber look for pipework upstairs.	Sixth skip (concrete) is taken away.


Getting ready to lift up the (partially) full skip.		Second day with a portaloo on site.


Dämon plumbers arrive 8am.	Temporary water pipe fitted in old bathroom.	Loo in the old bathroom finally removed.
